Kidney Association appeals for donors

The Irish Kidney Association is appealing to people to sign up for donor cards as 500 people here wait for kidney transplants.

The appeal comes as an international conference on renal care gets underway in Dublin's Congress Centre today.

Two thousand renal care nurses are expected to attend the event which will discuss the new "wearable" kidney, which could replace painful dialysis treatment.

Mark Murphy is CEO of the Irish Kidney Association encouraged people to freetext the word DONOR to 50050 to receive a donor card.
