Taoiseach attends EU summit after issuing apology

The Taoiseach Brian Cowen will attend a summit of EU leaders in Brussels today, hoping his apology last night will have put an end to the controversy over his radio interview on Tuesday.

Mr Cowen said yesterday that he did not intend to disrespect the country or the people of Ireland when he gave an interview which he said "wasn't his best performance".
