A bomb discovered in the roofspace of a house in Belfast was a Second World War mortar, it was confirmed today.

A bomb discovered in the roofspace of a house in Belfast was a Second World War mortar, it was confirmed today.

The device was found today in a house in Belmont Park in east Belfast and the area was cordoned off while army technical experts examined the find.

The explosives specialists later confirmed it was a bomb dating from the war period.

Police said the military experts successfully removed the item without incident.
