A woman has died following a collision between the car she was driving and an articulated truck in Co Westmeath this afternoon.

A woman has died following a collision between the car she was driving and an articulated truck in Co Westmeath this afternoon.

The crash occurred on the N52 at Robinstown, Delvin, Co. Westmeath on the Clonmellon Road at around 2pm today.

Gardaí said the 39-year-old woman was the driver and sole occupant of a jeep-type vehicle. She was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar.

The male driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle, an articulated truck, did not require hospital treatment.

The road is currently closed for an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
