Waste management body 'amazed' at Poolbeg 'break clause'

Dublin City Council has been urged to re-negotiate the proposed Poolbeg incinerator.

The Irish Waste Management Association has said the existence of a "break clause" in the contract means the council should now re-negotiate the contract and scale down the incinerator.

Dublin City Council has said it is "not true" to say that it can walk away from the project at no cost, because a large amount of money has already been spent on the facility.

But Brendan Keane from the Irish Waste Management Association said the council has misled the public on this issue.

Mr Keane said: "To date we have been told that there is absolutely no way out and we were committed for 25 years.

"The indication now is that there is a potential walkaway position on Monday morning."
