RTÉ presenter Miriam O'Callaghan has ruled out the prospect of running for President next year.

Weekend reports suggested the 'Prime Time' anchor was a contender to replace Mary McAleese when her term ends in 2011.

But in a statement released this lunchtime, Ms O'Callaghan said while she was “delighted and honoured” that some people are considering her as a potential candidate, she will not be standing for the position, independent or otherwise, in the upcoming election.
