The Government has allocated more than half of the €2m in aid Ireland has pledged to the relief effort in Pakistan.

The Government has allocated more than half of the €2m in aid Ireland has pledged to the relief effort in Pakistan.

Overseas Development Minister Peter Power said the release of €1.05m would support the work of four agencies.

The funds will be distributed between The World Food Programme, UNICEF, Plan Ireland and Goal.

Meanwhile, US officials have warned that the Taliban are planning to target foreign aid agencies working to bring relief to flood victims.

The warning has led United Nations staff in Pakistan to review their security.
