Gardaí appeal for witnesses to Sligo assault
Gardaí in Sligo are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault in the town last night.
A 49-year-old man - who is from the area - was found lying on the pedestrian bridge over the Garravogue River at around 9pm.
He was admitted to Sligo General Hospital with serious head injuries and later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where his condition is described as stable.
Gardaí say it appears that the injured man was in the company of another man at Richmond Parade when a dispute arose which resulted in the man being injured.
A technical examination of the scene has been completed.
