The Minister for Social Protection Eamon O'Cuiv wants to see a profile of the customers whose electricity supply the ESB has been disconnecting.

Figures released at the weekend show the supplier is cutting off 30 households a day.

There are fears the situation could worsen, once the new energy levy kicks in later this year.

The Money Advice and Budgeting service has said suppliers need to take more time to distinguish between those who cannot pay, and those who won't.
