Gardai have renewed their appeal for information surrounding the shooting dead of a 21-year-old man in front of his brother in Dublin.

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for information surrounding the shooting dead of a 21-year-old man in front of his brother in Dublin.

The inquest into the death of Gavin McCarthy from Oriel street in the north inner city has found he was unlawfully killed on October 19, 2008.

Mr McCarthy was shot dead by a teenager on a bicycle as he stood talking to his brother Daniel and friends on Sheriff Street.

Superintendent Kevin Dolan said the file on his death remains open.

"The death of Gavin McCarthy was a very tragic event for his family and for his friends who were there at the time," Supt. Dolan said.

"We would be appealing to anybody who has information to contact us at Store St garda station."

Although Mr McCarthy's life was under threat, gardaí say the person who shot him was not an experienced gunman.

His brother Daniel tried to apprehend his attacker in the minutes after the shooting and has since tragically taken his own life.
