Shop staff tied up during attempted armed raid

Terrified staff were tied up during an attempted armed robbery in a city centre shop today.

An alarm was activated during the foiled raid in The Bullion Room on Bolton Street, Dublin, with gardaí moving in to arrest two suspects at the scene.

Two men had entered the premises at around 9.30am and tied up the workers, a man and a woman, in a back office.

Both staff members escaped uninjured and nothing was taken in the robbery.

Gardaí revealed a suspected firearm was recovered and sent for ballistic examination.

The shop, which deals in precious metals and specialises in buying and refining scrap metal, has been preserved for a technical examination.

The men, both aged in their early 30s, are being questioned at Bridewell Garda Station under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act, 1939.
