Callely suspended from Fianna Fáil

Senator Ivor Callely has been suspended from Fianna Fáil - while an internal investigation is carried out by the party.

The news comes after the former Dublin North TD recently lost the party Whip and was suspended from the Seanad for 20 days, after he used the address of his Cork holiday home to claim more than €80,000 in travel allowances.

A statement from the Fianna Fáil party said that 'certain matters' concerning Senator Callely will be reviewed.

A report is expected to be made at the next meeting of the Fianna Fáil Ard Chomhairle, scheduled for next month.

Earlier, Fine Gael called for a garda inquiry into allegations that Mr Callely has made fraudulent mobile phone expense claims.
