A spokesperson for Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O Keeffe has confirmed that the Minister has met Pharmadel, one of the groups behind the proposed development of a Global Pharmaceutical Centre of Excellence in Tralee.

The development could see the creation of more than 4,000 jobs, according to its backers.

A spokesperson for the Minister said that he met Pharmadel representatives in Cork in May, when they outlined brief details of their proposal. He added that a more detailed submission on their proposals is awaited.

If the project were to succeed, it would make Tralee the biggest single centre of employment in the State and could potentially increase the population of Tralee by 22%.

An initial meeting took place in the town last week, and a project team has been appointed for the proposed €4.7bn project.
