A newborn baby boy from Cork is fighting for his life at a Swedish hospital, after contracting a rare virus.

Three-week-old Daniel Collins from Gurranabraher was taken to Stockholm for specialist treatment having initially being seen by doctors here.

The adenovirus meant the infant, who was born healthy, was left unable to breathe on his own.

A special fund is being set up to help support Daniel's parents, Deirdre and Vincent, while they are in Sweden.
