Dept to publish report on children's attitudes to parenting

The attitudes of children towards different parenting and discipline styles will be published by the Office of the Minister for Children later this morning.

Two reports were commissioned as part of the research under the national Children's Strategy - one of the reports documents the child's perspective, while the other shows the parent's.

Dr Elizabeth Nixon from Trinity College Dublin is the principal investigator on the report from the child's perspective - she says they uncovered some interesting attitudes towards discipline.

Dr Nixon said: "Children highlighted that difficult strategies were effective when their was some instructional value inherent in them and they were consistent."
