Toddler dies after road accident

A toddler who was nearly two years old died after a tragic road accident, police said today.

The little girl was walking on the Blackstaff Road in Clough, Co Down, last night when she was struck by a 4x4 type vehicle.

A woman who was with the child suffered a suspected broken arm and was taken to hospital after the accident, which occurred at around 5.15pm.

The driver of the vehicle was also taken to hospital suffering from shock and whiplash.

The child was one month away from her second birthday.

Police appealed for information on the accident.
