Adams dismisses 'silly' Kenny remarks on coalition

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has explained his party's reasons for refusing to go into government with Sinn Féin after the next election.

Mr Kenny was in the North today for his first meeting with Northern Secretary Owen Paterson. He also met representatives of the North's main parties.

He said he was ruling out a coalition with Sinn Féin because they refused to recognise only one army in the State.

However, Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has dismissed the Fine Gael leader's remarks as "silly".

"The IRA have long since left the stage..For him to say such silly things here just feeds into the propoganda of anti-peace process elements," Mr Adams said.
