The HSE has this evening announced details of its review of miscarriage misdiagnosis in Irish hospitals, to be completed within six months.

It says it is working with all 19 maternity facilities nationwide to offer support to women with concerns and that where required, records will be looked at to make sure the correct diagnosis was given.

The review team includes experts in obstetrics and gynaecology, as well as Cathriona Molloy from Patient Focus.

It will have access to expert advice in areas such as radiology and diagnostic imaging equipment and will examine any cases in the past five years where drug or surgical treatment was recommended after a diagnosis of miscarriage.

The HSE says between 240 women have contacted maternity hospitals around the country with their concerns.
