Thousands protest over hospital cutbacks

Over 10,000 people protested in Mullingar today against the proposed cutbacks planned for the Midlands Regional Hospital.

The crowds were addressed by members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation and local politicians.

The hospital caters for a population of 120,000 from Longford and Westmeath, but it is now feared that the facility will be downgraded by the HSE.
