Luas driver charged in connection with crash

A Luas driver has been charged in connection a crash with a double decker bus in Dublin city centre, the Court Service confirmed today.

Oriyomi Emmanuel appeared before Dublin District Court where he was accused of dangerous driving causing serious harm to Suzanne Cribbon.

The 37-year-old driver was also charged with operating the tram in a manner which posed a risk to others.

The accident happened on September 16 at the corner of Abbey Street and O’Connell Street and involved the number 16 bus to Santry and the Luas from Tallaght.

The tram de-railed on impact and imbedded with the side of the bus, pinning terrified passengers against broken glass and twisted seats.

The majority of people suffered minor injuries while the Luas driver and a small number of passengers escaped injury after being trapped in the mangled wreckage.

Emmanuel, of Jamestown Park, Rathoath, Co Meath, was brought before the Criminal Courts of Justice yesterday.

He was remanded on bail until July 28.
