Body found in shallow grave
A murder investigation is expected to be launched today after a body was discovered in a shallow grave on waste ground.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out on the remains, which were found near Limerick’s Moyross estate.
Although gardaí have not confirmed the gender or age of the victim, it is feared the body could be of a 25-year-old man who was reported missing last week.
The alarm was raised yesterday afternoon when disturbed ground was noticed in an area known as Delmedge Demesne.
The scene was sealed off and was examined by members of the technical bureau from Dublin who made the grim find.
Gardaí said a full examination of the scene and the body is due to take place.
“The State Pathologist has been informed and a post-mortem is expected to be carried out later today,” said a spokesman.
“No identification of the body or determination of gender has been made.
“Investigations are continuing and the area remains sealed off.”
Investigating officers appealed to anyone who may have seen unusual activity in the area, or with any information to offer in relation to this find, to contact them at Mayorstone Park incident room.
