The country's economic think tank is holding a conference later today that will look at poverty in Ireland compared to other European countries.

Among the papers presented at the ESRI conference will be a comparison of poverty and deprivation in Ireland with other countries including the UK, Finland and Portugal.

Its author, Sociology Professor at UCD Chris Whelan, said certain groups here do not compare well to people in similiar situations abroad.
