University lecturers reject Croke Park deal

Members of the Irish Federation of University Teachers have joined their second level counterparts in the ASTI and TUI in rejecting the public sector pay-and-reform deal.

Members of the IFUT previously voted by 67% against the Croke Park agreement.

A crunch meeting of the Irish Congress of Trade Union Public Services Committee is scheduled for June 15, where all unions will vote on the deal in accordance with their own ballot results.

Turnout in the IFUT vote was just 40%, with president Mike Jennings saying the ballot came at a busy time for the members. He said he believed it was a representative result, however.

"The margin for and against was very much up to our expectations and hopes," he said.
