Man loses finger in Ennis assault

A man has had one of his fingers cut off after being assaulted while collecting his children from school in Co. Clare.

A group of men armed with a variety of weapons, including a machete, pulled up in a car alongside the man on the Kilrush Road in Ennis town at around 3pm this afternoon.

The man suffered serious knife wounds in the assault, which continued down in the the Market area of the town.

He is currently being treated in hospital for his injuries.

Ennis Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area of Ennis National School on the Kilrush Road or around Market Square to contact them.
