A new study on the level of gun killings in Ireland has criticised the Government's strategy as being 'misguided and ineffective'.

The study from Aberdeen University revealed that in 2008, more than 38% of murders and manslaughters in Ireland involved firearms, compared to less than 7% in England and Wales.
