The Government is being accused of reneging on a promise to introduce an allowance to assist low income families deal with the new carbon tax.

The tax is to be applied to oil and other heating fuels from this Saturday.

The Government has said the winter fuel allowance will be available again from October.

But speaking in the Dáíl this morning, Labour leader Eamon Gilmore said that's no good to people who need help now.
