FF's Fahey latest to forego pension payment

Fianna Fáil's Frank Fahey has become the latest Oireachtas member to forego the double pension payment.

The Galway West TD said he will not draw his ministerial pension until after he retires from the Dáil, because of the current state of the public finances.

All former Fine Gael and Labour Ministers still sitting as Dáíl deputies have confirmed they will be writing to the Finance Minister to make arrangements to forego their pensions.

That leaves nine TDs, Senators and MEPs still in receipt of the payment, all members of Fianna Fáil.

Meanwhile Labour Leader Eamon Gilmore said the pensions debacle - which began with the controversy over Ireland's EU Commissioner - has left the Taoiseach looking "indecisive".
