Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority have launched separate investigations into the death of a 77-year-old man in Co Longford.

Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority have launched separate investigations into the death of a 77-year-old man in Co Longford.

The man died after an accident involving cattle at his farm in the Moyne area of north Longford this morning.

It is understood he died at the scene.

The elderly farmer's body was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar where a postmortem will be carried out tomorrow.
