Three people have died in separate fires, gardaí said today.

A man in his 60s died after a fire broke out in a shed at the back of his home in Kerry last night.

Gardaí said the incident happened in Connolly Park, Tralee, at about 9.30pm last night. Local fire crews recovered the man’s body in the burnt-out shed.

Investigations were continuing into the cause of the blaze and a post-mortem examination was due to be carried out later at Kerry General Hospital.

In a second incident, a man in his mid-60s died and a man in his 70s was injured when a blaze broke out at their home in the St Mary’s Park area of Limerick.

The injured man was being treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.

Gardaí said local fire crews were alerted to the blaze in St Brendan’s Street at about 7.30pm yesterday evening.

In the third incident yesterday, a woman in her 90s died at her home near Castleisland, Co Kerry.

Gardaí believe the blaze broke out when the woman’s clothes caught fire.

The accident happened at 6am yesterday morning.
