Man dies following Wicklow plane crash
One man was killed and another seriously injured when a light aircraft crashed in Co Wicklow today, gardaí said.
The 66-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at a private airstrip in the Powerscourt estate near Enniskerry.
The injured man, who is 69, is in a critical condition in Tallaght General Hospital.
The two-seater single-engined aircraft crashed as it was attempting to land around 3pm.
It is understood the plane’s wing hit a tree, causing the aircraft to overturn.
The large estate, famous for its castle and landscaped gardens, is owned by the Slazenger family.
An inquiry by the Air Accident Investigation Unit is under way.
