Benhaffaf twins in surgery in London

Conjoined twins Hassan and Hussein Benhaffaf from Cork are undergoing separation surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

The four-month-old boys - who are from Cork - are joined at the chest but do not share any vital organs.

Cork-born paediatric surgeon Edward Kiely is leading the surgical team. The hospital says an update will not be issued before tomorrow morning.

Consultant obstetrician Professor Elis Down says the surgery will be carefully monitored and would not have been suggested if there were not "a reasonable chance of success".
