Married couple assaulted in Longford robbery

Gardaí are investigating an aggravated burglary in Longford last night.

At about 1am two intruders wearing balaclavas burst into the house in Ballinalee demanding money.

They carried iron bars and assaulted the married couple, who are in their early 60s.

The raiders fled empty-handed and the injured and badly shaken couple were taken to Mullingar General Hospital.

Their two adult children were also in the house at the time.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
