Gardaí continue to question man in connection with Midleton death
Gardaí are continuing to question a man about the murder of a Cork mother of three early on Easter Sunday morning.
Catherine Smart was found dead with head injuries in the kitchen of her Midleton home.
The suspect - a man in his forties - was brought to Midleton Garda Station for questioning, where he can be held for up to 24 hours.
It is believed Catherine Smart had been socialising in Midleton on Saturday night.
She is reported to have called gardaí to her Baillick Court home at around 5am on Easter Sunday morning, as she couldn't get in.
Less than five hours later, officers found her body inside the house after receiving a 999 call.
A post mortem was carried out, which led to the launch of a murder inquiry.
