The Finance Minister has today rejected claims that the appointment of provisional administrators to Quinn Insurance was "pre-emptive, aggressive and unnecessary".

The tycoon Seán Quinn made the claims in a statement and in a letter to all Cabinet Ministers, adding that 5,500 jobs were at risk because of the decision.
