Lost PSNI officers set up checkpoint in Republic

It has emerged that the PSNI mistakenly mounted a checkpoint in the Tánaiste's constituency last week.

Officers stopped cars and patrolled just across the border from Belleek in Co Fermanagh.

It is understood officers were told they had crossed the border and immediately withdrew.

A spokesperson says the checkpoint was located at a filling station and that officers who were unaware of the Fermanagh/Donegal border region believed that the location was in the North.
