Public sector deal 'only show in town', says garda union general secretary
The deal brokered between the Government and unions last night is "the only show in town", the garda union General secretary said this afternoon.
The Government has agreed not to impose any further pay cuts on public servants until 2014 - in exchange for wide-ranging reform of the public sector.
Some delegates attending the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors' annual conference in Galway have expressed their dissatisfaction with the agreement, and the short space of time it was negotiated in.
However, the AGSI's General Secretary Joe Dirwin, said that it was in the interests of members to agree to the deal.
