Gormley 'not surprised' at Kavanagh resignation

Green Party leader John Gormley has said that he is "unsurprised" by the resignation of one of the party's councillors today, saying it had been "on the cards" for some time.

Green Party leader John Gormley has said that he is "unsurprised" by the resignation of one of the party's councillors today, saying it had been "on the cards" for some time.

Earlier, Pat Kavanagh, a member of Wicklow Town Council, left the party saying she could no longer stand over certain decisions made by the Greens at Government level, including NAMA.

In a letter to the General Secretary, Cllr Kavanagh said she believed there was a continuous erosion of democracy within the party.

But John Gormley has said with 83% of party members voting to support NAMA, there was always going to be a few dissenters.
