Irish Ferries has issued a statement today advising passengers that no passport is required when travelling to Britain by ferry.

Many people have faced delays collecting passports due to industrial action at various passport offices recently.

"Contrasting this situation with rules laid down by airlines who demand that all passengers to Britain be in possession of a valid passport, Irish Ferries states that, when travelling to Britain by ferry from the Republic of Ireland, Irish passengers need only be in possession of a valid official ID in the form of a driving licence or suchlike," said the statement.
