Poll reveals drink-driving still a problem

One in three drivers still thinks it is acceptable to drink and drive.

One in three drivers still thinks it is acceptable to drink and drive.

According to a new poll by the Road Safety Authority older men living in Connaught and Ulster are least likely to change their behaviour.

The poll has found that two out of every 10 drivers in Connaught and Ulster that were questioned admitted to driving a vehicle after having two drinks or more.

The study also shows that 70% of drivers support a reduction in drink-driving limits, as proposed by Transport Minister Noel Dempsey.

The new limit, which has been met with widespread opposition, could mean motorists are over the limit after having just one drink.
