Gilmore calls for Cabinet 'shakeout'

Labour leader Eamon Gilmore says that Martin Cullen's resignation should lead to a Cabinet "shakeout" rather than a reshuffle.

The Waterford TD resigned as Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism and from the Dáil last night on his hospital consultant's recommendation.

Mr. Cullen has been suffering from chronic back pain in recent years - a condition which he says is only going to get worse.

Brian Cowen paid tribute to the Waterford TD, saying: "The commitment and flair which he has brought to the discharge of his duties have been widely appreciated."
