Roof collapses in industrial waste plant blaze

The roof collapsed at an industrial premises in Co Derry today as firefighters battled with a massive blaze.

Around 60 firemen were fighting the flames at a waste collection company in Campsie. The inferno broke out at City Industrial Waste on the Mobouy Road at 10.20am.

A Fire Service spokeswoman said: “We expect it to run on into the early hours of the morning. Fire crews have been called from around the area.”

Residents were advised to keep windows and doors shut as a precautionary measure.

Six appliances, one aerial platform, two water tankers, a specialist pumping unit and a command support unit were at the scene.
