Aer Lingus accused of threatening staff into approving plan, says union

The Deputy General Secretary of IMPACT is accusing Aer Lingus of threatening staff into voting for its latest cost-cutting plan.

Aer Lingus is warning that a rejection by staff of its latest cost cutting measures could result in 1,100 compulsory redundancies and a major scaling-back of routes.

Workers are being balloted on the €97m plan that is been agreed with unions, but there are concerns that it will not get staff support.

The current deal will result 676 redundancies, pay cuts of up to 10% and a three-year pay freeze.

Unions are balloting 3,000 members on the plan this week however the results are not expected until next month.
