Government under pressure as Opposition speculate on source of leak

Tensions between the Government parties are set to be raised in the Dáil today when Opposition parties return to the resignation of Trevor Sergent.

There has been some speculation that Justice Minister Dermot Ahern leaked Sergent's letter to the media, in retaliation to the Green Party forcing the resignation of former Defence Minister Willie O'Dea.

Mr Ahern has denied these allegations, saying that he regrets the departure of his colleague.

Last night the Taoiseach said allegations that Fianna Fáil played a role Mr Sergent's downfall were "without foundation, and beneath contempt".

However, the Green party leader John Gormley says he needs more facts before he can determine who leaked the story which brought down his colleague.
