Woman to go on trial for killing of taxi driver

A 23-year-old woman accused of murdering a retired taxi driver in Dublin just over two years ago is due to go on trial at the Central Criminal Court tomorrow.

Claire Nolan, of Corduff in West Dublin, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Michael Duffy at Well View Grove in Blanchardstown on January 26, 2008.

The 67-year-old died after he was hit by a car outside his son's house in the early hours of the morning.

Mr Duffy, who was originally from North King Street in north inner city Dublin, had driven there from his home in Cavan.

The accused, who is attending a drug treatment centre, has admitted killing Mr Duffy, but the State has refused to accept her guilty to manslaughter plea.

A jury of six men and six women has been sworn in for the trial which is expected to last five days.
