Four arrested in connection with murder outside bar

Four people were being questioned today in connection with the murder of a British man outside a bar in Dublin.

Jason Martin was stabbed to death when a row broke out involving about 20 people from two criminal gangs.

At the time, the 39-year-old was wanted by detectives in Lancashire who were investigating the kidnap of a father-of-four who is feared dead.

Mr Martin, from Oldham, died in hospital after the early morning altercation in the car park of Hannigen’s in the Plaza pub, at Park West, on the outskirts of Ballyfermot on September 27.

Two gangland fractions were believed to be involved and used a range of weapons including knives, broken bottles and glasses.

A garda spokesman said two women and two men were arrested in the Dublin area in relation to the killing.

The women, aged in their 30s, and one of the men, in his mid-20s, were being detained under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act in Ballyfermot and Clondalkin garda stations.

The second man, who is in his mid-30s, is being held under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

It is understood Mr Martin sought refuge with one of the gangs after he went on the run from the British authorities.
