The controversial 30km an hour speed limit in parts of central Dublin will be discussed by city councillors again this afternoon.

The council is under pressure to reduce the area covered by the limit following a public outcry and lobbying by interest groups.

Councillors are considering exempting areas such as Kildare Street, Winetavern Street and parts of the quays from the 30 kilometre limit.

Fine Gael Councillor Gerry Breen called the motion "ill-considered and ill-scripted" and said the speed-limit change should be repealed in its entirety.
