Clare Co Council fined for safety breaches
Clare County Council has been fined €50,000 at Ennis Circuit Criminal Court as a result of serious breaches of health and safety regulations.
The case arose from an accident involving a 49-year-old council worker who died after he sustained serious injuries in a workplace accident.
Thomas O'Grady was operating a digger that overturned at roadworks in Tulla in Co Clare on May 17 2006. He died as a result of his injuries on July 7, 2006.
Responding to the ruling, the Health and Safety Authority said the case highlighted the consequences for employers who do not ensure health and safety risks are managed.
