Gardaí have sealed off an area in Dublin city centre this evening following the discovery of a suspicious device.

Workers dredging a canal at Herbert Place close to the Peppercanister Church excavated what is believed to be an old grenade.

A team from the Army bomb disposal unit is at the scene carrying out an examination of the device.
