Gardaí back industrial action

Rank and file gardaí have given their backing to industrial action which does not include strike action.

The Garda Representative Association (GRA) said 93% of its members who replied to a questionnaire supported a campaign to oppose recent pay cuts.

However, only 50% of the 11,600 GRA members responded to the survey.

The Central Executive Committee of the association is now meeting to decide on what form of action to take.

GRA General Secretary PJ Stone said: "We have now an obligation to bring fruition to this questionnaire in the form of industrial action…We will be doing that."
