Probe into death of woman in Cork psychiatric hospital
Gardai and the Health Service Executive are investigating the death of an elderly woman at a psychiatric hospital in Glanmire, Co Cork.
Staff at St Stephen's hospital found the body of the woman, aged in her 70s, last Sunday afternoon.
She was rushed to Cork University Hospital but died yesterday.
She is believed to have died as a result of strangulation with a television flex.
Gardaí are awaiting the full results of a post mortem to determine if they are dealing with an accident or foul play.
A spokesperson for the HSE said that a patient died after "a tragic accident" and that staff had "acted quickly" to provide medical attention.
The HSE is also carrying out its own examination of the circumstances behind the woman's death
